Sighting Report
Lake Ontario, New York State.
22nd April 2010

Last night I saw something that I can not explain. I was throwing a glow cleo at the mouth of Sandy Creek in Hamlin, NY. The sky was perfectly clear, so clear in fact that it caused temperatures to plummet to the 30's. I'm facing north right at the river mouth and out of nowhere, what seemed like a good distance away, (very hard to tell distance at night,) about 2 inches off the horizon line, a large orange ball which flickered almost like fire appeared. It just hovered over the water. It looked like there was something directly below it. At first I thought it might have been some signal light on like a sail boat or large freighter.... but then it began to move to the right (east) and started to get larger. That's when I realized it was really 3 balls very close together.

At this point I was very intrigued, so I paddled out of the river mouth to get away from the marina's lights to see if I could get a better view. Then, just like the first, a second cluster of orange orbs appeared, much closer to me (but still at least a mile away). To be extremely clear, the lights never moved vertically, only from west to a south eastern direction. I've seen flares before, and this wasn't any flare I've ever seen. The objects did their thing for about 10 mins. When the second one appeared, it just really scared me, and I turned and paddled back to the marina and notified some of the members who were still there of what I was seeing. They told me that they had once before seen something similar while out sailing and called 911 thinking a boat was in trouble.

The orange balls were so bright that the light from them could be seen coming over the jetty in front of the marina.

I don't know what I saw. I know it wasn't swamp gas or a weather balloon. All I know is that I have never seen anything like it before and I'm on the water a lot. I haven't had a drink in over a week, and I don't do any drugs, so I can rule that out.

This morning I type "orange balls over Lake Ontario" into Google and apparently hundreds of people have reported seeing similar things. This is just weird.

I took video of it. Although my cheap digital camera doesn't take night video all that great you can see the object in it, and at the end of the video you can see the second one appear much closer.

Many thanks to the witness for reporting this event.

I frequently receive emails from people who have seen these orbs or light balls and are wanting to know what they are. I have also received emails from people who, most likely, have not seen them for themselves, and I am told that they are aircraft.

One day, maybe, we will have some answers, maybe not.
