Orbwatch Members Reports - Update

Saturday 4th July, 1998.

PRESENT: JJ, MS.

SET UP: 22:00 hrs. D.S.T.

WEATHER CONDITIONS: Still, calm conditions, with tiny ripples on water. Reasonable visibility, along the shoreline. Gentle breeze.

TEMPERATURE: Approximately 16 degrees C.

VISIBILITY: Ceiling is almost unlimited in most directions. Some thunderheads present over the eastern lake. Five days prior to full moon. Fireworks clearly visible on the south shore.

22:21 h.  ORB appears approximately 5 degrees above the horizon in the in the DARK AREA east of St Catharines.   The ORB appears stationary, on the cusp of the light and dark areas. He is glowing brightly, and drops down to about 2 degrees above the horizon. ORB becomes dimmer and then brightens up as he comes down to the water's surface.  He's now about one degree above the horizon " Not moving laterally, but moving downwards.......He's just upon the water's surface now.....No beam and pretty well disappeared now. Time is now... 22:23 hrs.

`M' Says that a beam did come down, and the ORB disappeared under the water into the beam. " He's popped back up twice and acting like an amber strobe."  (This was observed under high magnification - 15 x)."

22:52 h.  An ORB appeared momentarily, further into the lighted area this time at about five degrees elevation. The ORB sat there and `M' said  "Shall I flash him (with a laser beam)."  He's now increased altitude to about eight degrees above the horizon. `M'  says "He's buggered off,"  but I can still see him sitting there waiting to come and land.  He's an amber colour as usual. Apparently this fellow is at a bearing of  XXXX.  The ORB just winked out.

During these proceedings, we are listening to a re-enactment of the "Blitzkreig"  coming from the direction of Toronto!!!!!

22:56 h.   We have decided to retreat.....maybe, put the chairs away, as the "war" is getting closer!!!!!

Pack up time: 23:00 h.

ORBWATCH REPORT - UPDATE

Monday/Tuesday, June 22nd/23rd, 1998.

PRESENT: JJ, MS.

SET UP: 22:30 hrs. E.S.T.

WEATHER CONDITIONS: Still, calm conditions, with tiny ripples on water. Low visibility due to a thick lake fog. Thousands of fireflies all around. Gentle breeze.

TEMPERATURE: Approximately 20 degrees C.

VISIBILITY: Ceiling is almost unlimited in most directions. Visibility over the lake is poor, estimated at approximately 6 miles maximum over the lake. We are facing a slighty North north Westerly aspect.

Note: This is a NEW LOCATION for Orbwatch on the Southern Shore of Lake Ontario.

22:30 hrs. Several unidentifiable lights have appeared in our field of view, these are large orange ORBS such as we are familiar with from our other locations. They appear to be emanating from the approximate area of the mouth of the Niagara River, travelling out over the Niagara Bar and the Romsey Shoals.

22:33 hrs.  There are now two objects which appear to be sitting on the water out in the lake. These objects are again orange ORBS or globes of light. The ORBS are stationary and seem to actually be just above the level of, rather than on the water. It's very surprising that we appear to be the only people seeing these objects.

The other people around this site are engrossed in their "creature comforts" of television and other "3D" stuff!! If only they'd open their eyes!!!!

22:40 hrs.  Two ORBS are approaching from the West. Elevation is approximately 7-8 degrees and they are moving at a slow but constant speed at a range of approximately 4-5 miles offshore. The ORBS are clearly visible with the naked eye.  The vivid amber colour and sheer size of these objects is making it easy to differenciate them from the beautiful swarms of fireflies. The ORBS are now increasing in intensity and are almost perpendicular to the shore at our viewing location, but still on a slight Westerly angle. The first of the ORBS is now descending and is at about 3 degrees from the visible horizon, the second ORB is following the same trajectory/arc.

22:41 hrs.  The first ORB is now hovering just above water level. The second is at about 3 degrees elevation. The first ORB is now tilting slightly (down to the right..... From my aspect) and starting to slowly submerge. The light on the now submerged first ORB is still visible under the water surface, and, the second ORB is now right on the water and commencing to tip also. The second is now submerging.

Both ORBS are now submerged. There is no sign of them to me above the water.

22:45 hrs.  A HUGE ORB has appeared to my North West. It's approacing at an elevation of no more than 6-7 degrees and this is VERY close indeed. The luminosity of this one is incredible. The orange looks like a massive ball of fire in the night sky. I'm not sure if he has come out of the fog, which is now quite thick, or, whether he has also travelled from the Niagara River region.

THIS IS SPECTACULAR!!!

This ORB is now moving along in a very fluid manner, he is slowly losing height, yet there is no reflection of HIS light fom the water!!!

ORBWATCH REPORT - UPDATE

Friday, June 5th, 1998.

PRESENT: JJ, MS.

SET UP: 20:00 hrs. E.S.T.

WEATHER CONDITIONS: Still, calm conditions, with tiny ripples on water.

TEMPERATURE: Approximately 14 degrees C.

VISIBILITY: Good along the shoreline in both directions, and out over the open water. Reported at 40 km. Ceiling is approximately 10,000 feet.

Numerous groups of lights are evident in the area of St. Catharines and Niagara.

There is a LIGHT PILLAR and two BIG RED beacons. The plume of Niagara is clearly visible in the distance.

Our elevation is approximately 17 feet above water level.

20:00 h. Visual reconnaisance of the shoreline around St. Catharines and Niagara areas commenced.

20:30 h. Several of the brighter shoreline lights are beginning to illuminate, giving us standard visual reference points. Compass bearings of several specific locations were taken and recorded for plotting. Negligible aircraft traffic is noted in the area as a whole. A very large lake tanker is sighted travelling from Toronto to the Hamilton area.

21:00 h. Official sunset time has just been reached. The majority of the shoreline lights are now visible. One set of lights, we call "The Runway Lights," in the St. Catharines area are NOT VISIBLE tonight. This is quite anomalous in itself, as they are often present.

21:20 h. Increase in general aircraft movements is noted. At any one time, five or more aircraft are visible on approach to/holding for Pearson International Airport, outside Toronto. These are using the standard approach paths and patterns and at a significant altitude.

21:30 h. We can now clearly see three deep coloured BIG RED "beacons," in the DARK AREA to the east/east south east of the glow . These are situated well out into the lake, well away from the lighted area. On occasion, the "beacons"(which we call BIG RED) pulse and increase in luminosity as air traffic passes overhead, or nearby. There is also a light which appears to be on a high pole, closer in to the St.Catharines Skyway. This light is amber in colour, and at times starts flashing for no apparent reason.

21:45 h. Looking out toward the furthest BIG RED, toward the lake centre, a HUGE ORB appears. It seems to have materialized out of thin air. The ORB is now moving directly toward BIG RED. Now he is veering slightly to the east of BIG RED and is losing altitude reasonably fast. I can't estimate the speed of the ORB, as he is coming almost straight toward me, however, he is fast!! The ORB seems extremely large, far larger than any of shoreline lights and NOTHING like any of the aircraft in the area. Within about 20-25 seconds, he has submerged, his lights remaining visible below the surface of the water for several seconds.

21:46 h. A second ORB appears at the same point as the first. He follows the same pattern of movement and illumination as the first, and submerges. We can now see another two ORBS, behind and above BIG RED. They're appearing one after another. This is an absolutely incredible sight!!!! The immense brightness is impossible to describe. There is no single filament or point from which the light emanates, it's an even luminosity right across the entire ORB. All these ORBS are submerging, one after another, in the same place as the previous one(s). These guys are MASSIVE!!!!

21:47 h. An ENORMOUS RED ORB has just manifested!!!! This a fantastic sight!! He seems to be quite a bit larger than his predecessors, but follows the same basic path to the SUBMERSION POINT!!!! He is so beautiful!! He is ORB number four so far, in the space of only two minutes.

21:49 h. There was what seemed to be a small break....Only a minute or two, when there were no new ORBS visible. They're back! Now the ORBS are coming in very fast!!! One after another, they are appearing, then, travel a small distance, and submerge.

The total number of ORBS seen tonight is now THIRTEEN, in less than 10 minutes!!

There's a eeling of absolute AWE to see these ORBS disappearing into the depths of the lake. Whilst there is a feeling of absolute control and I am stunned by these objects, I also feel extremely calm and at peace. There is no feeling of any threat from these objects, but there is a definite sense of intelligent control.

21:50 h. Two fast moving LOW flying aircraft have appeared from the DARK AREA, just east of the pink glow of St. Catharines/Niagara area(s). The red beacons on the water are continuing to pulse at approximately two flashes per second, but at a lower luminosity.

21:55 h. There has been no activity from the ORBS for five minutes, since the aircraft activity near the beacons. The red flashing beacons are NOT normal navigational beacons. Sometimes they are there, sometimes not. They are also in different locations at times. This has been a great night for the ORBS, but the temperature has now fallen significantly and we are feeling very damp, being so close to the lake.

21:58 h. We are packing up the gear. As we stow the equipment, another amber ORB appears, yet again in the same location. This ORB too comes in at about 7 degrees above the water, follows a gentle trajectory to the surface, and submerges. This chap doesn't appear to totally submerge, but rather, seems to be half submerged. He is visible above AND BELOW the water surface. We keep an eye on him whilst packing up the remainder of the gear, but, he remains visible, possibly to act as a LIGHT PILLAR later in the night. This has been a VERY spectacular night, and a great introduction to the ORBS for me. This is an incredibly unusual, yet very beautiful sight. I feel very relaxed when watching these ORBS maneuver about the lake area. There is no sense of fear, no fright, and no intimidation at all, just total peace.

22:10 hrs. Packed up for the night.

ORBWATCH REPORT - UPDATE

Wednesday, March 25th., 1998.

PRESENT:  JJ

SET-UP: 18.45 hrs.  E.S.T.

WEATHER CONDITIONS:  Still, calm conditions, with small ripples on water.

TEMPERATURE:  Approximately 7 degrees C.

VISIBILITY:  Good along the shoreline in both directions, but a small haze out over the open water.

Out over the open water in the area around St. Catharine's, the groups of lights are back.  These are groups of lights which range in number from 2 to 5, and appear to "sequence"  from time to time.

Tonight I am situated slightly lower than last Monday, by about fifteen feet, so I should have a nearer horizon.

There is a group of three lights that was not visible on Monday, when we had the submersions.   Monday was colder and much clearer, so the lights should have been visible then, had they been shoreline lights, but they were not.

19.31 h.  Light has appeared at about 10 degrees above the horizon, just on the edge of the lighted area of St. Catharines and the dark area to the east.  This has no particular colour to it.  It is above BIG RED, and still at about 10 degrees, travelling in an easterly direction.

19.35 h.  ORB has just appeared, giving me no warning whatsoever, to press RECORD on the video camera.  We are not getting ANY warning with these guys at all.   They don't want to tell us in advance that they are around.
The ORB appeared as if brilliant headlights were facing me, and then winked out immediately.  Whilst the ORB was visible, the set of three sequencing lights became VERY bright.

19.38 h.   What appears to be an ORB, orange object, coming in at around 15 degrees elevation, slightly west of the group of three lights.  Another ORB makes a momentary appearance, just over the horizon, and winks out.

These ORBS are appearing just where the light and dark areas meet, and winking out immediately.   They are not even lingering for more than a moment.

19.39 h.   Another ORB has appeared slightly east of the set of three lights at an elevation of about 5 degrees, but only visible with binoculars.   This ORB also only appeared briefly, and then winked out, the sightings lasting, at most, about 5 seconds,

The group of lights seems to brighten up considerably when there is an appearance of an ORB, which makes me think that this is some correlation between the events.

19.42 h.   I can see a plane travelling east at about 25 degrees above the horizon,  displaying the usual flashing white strobes, and nothing like these orange objects.  The wind has picked up a bit now, at 19.50 hrs, and there is quite a cool breeze giving a temperature of about 2 degrees C.   It feels much colder than that whilst standing still by the water.

19.48 h.   There is an ORB coming in from the east  and zipping westwards towards that set of three lights.  The angle of elevation would be approximately 5 degrees.  He was really moving along.   I see that we have BIG RED out there tonight.

20.00 h.   These little groups of horizon lights seem to be much brighter than when I first arrived.  They also appear to be flashing and sequencing.

The flashing beacon on the edge of the dark area, was not there on Monday night.  It may have been there but not operational.  Tonight it is systematically flashing, and is an orangey colour, not red.

20.03 h.   ORB has appeared coming from the east and was just passing over the white flashing marker just now.   The ORB literally disappeared almost immediately.

20.05 h.   ORB appeared, travelling west, and going into the dark area.  He has not got very bright, and is approximately 2 degrees above the horizon.  I think that he is coming down.   He has now brightened up considerably and is still at about 2 degrees elevation.   It is very deep orange in colour. He is like a miniature sun.   Does not emit light, but is just "light," and glows.  There he is, just sort of sitting there, getting very bright, and I don't want to lose him.   Thank you for that!!!

This is a very obliging one, and he is waiting quite a long time for me.  He is now dulling down, fairly stationary, in the dark area, and probably looking for his submersion spot.  This is all done with naked eye, and I don't need binoculars at the moment.  He is just sort of hovering there, has decreased in altitude slightly, and has brightened up somewhat.   He is a very deep orange colour now.  Yet again, this object seemed to simply wink out.

No submersions tonight.

20.22 h.  Very brief appearance of an ORB out of the dark area, travelling in an easterly direction and just simply winked out.

PACK UP TIME:  20.35 hrs.

ORBWATCH REPORT - UPDATE

Monday, 23rd March, 1998.

PRESENT:  JJ and DM

SET-UP:   17.25 hrs.  E.S.T.

WEATHER CONDITIONS:  Clear evening, with beautiful red sunset.   Barely a breeze coming off the water, giving only ripples.

TEMPERATURE:  Cool, at around 1 degree C, but feeling much colder due to the damp near the lake.

VISIBILITY:  Excellent in all directions.  Clear sky with stars visible.  No haze in any direction.

The horizon straight out over "open water" has only a few isolated lights.  There is the short, wide LIGHT PILLAR, which is there most nights now.  Also, a red flashing mast, and a white strobing type of mast.  BIG RED is not here tonight!

I have not assembled the video camera tonight.  The temperature is fairly low, and it is quite difficult to operate the camera with gloves on. Without gloves, my hands will not survive very long. Thus, the plan is to do an evening of observation using the audio-cassette recorder, astronomical binoculars and my own Bushnell x 7-15 x 35 zoom binoculars.

19.35 h.   Object appears travelling in an easterly direction.  This appears very much like a plane.  This object turned abruptly, then travelled in westerly direction, the BEAM came down and the object submerged.

19.36 h.  SUBMERSION.

19.37 h.   Object appears at around 15 degrees elevation, moving in an easterly direction, and is passing over the flashing red beacon.  BIG RED is not here tonight, and this object has no wingtip lights or normal plane-type illuminations.

This object is quite a deep colour of orange, while the planes that are visible right now are very white, have many flashing lights on them, and move in a very linear fashion.
It is moving very fast, and still moving east.  It is now half way between the red flashing beacon and the white strobing marker.  The object is at about 10 degrees elevation now,  and going over the white strobing marker. It is now heading towards where the previous object submerged.  This object is a deep orange colour, and solid in appearance.  The object is at about 8 degrees now and still heading east.

It appears that this object is most likely going to "land" in the same spot.  It is now going into the "dark area" which is way east of where they were submerging before.   Now at about 5 degrees, but we notice that these ones are coming in much higher than last year's events.

This object is still decreasing in altitude and has slightly diminished in brightness.  Now appears to be flashing, and resembles a plane.   "See the two lights!  Wait till this guy makes his turn!!"
Now at about 3 degrees.  The object is now stationary and seems to be scintillating.  There are more than two lights across.  There is a line of lights, at least three or four, and they are sequencing from right to left.  This object could be communicating.  there is a lot of flashing going on that is not normal.

This object is VERY WIDE.  "There goes the beam and the object is heading in westerly direction.  Now at about 1 degree above horizon.  The beam can be seen travelling along the water as it finds the submersion spot.

19.40 h.   SUBMERSION.

That was a little sad.  Rather an anti-climactic type of submersion!

(Comments on last event.   DM: "When the object was about to turn,  went from bright to being barely visible, started to scintillate,  came down to about 2 degrees and seemed to be turning to the west, in fact he stayed stationary.  He turned on an angle and the 'left' lifted up.  Previously his lights were 'scintillating' from right to left,  but as he sort of hovered, the lights then changed their sequence.   That made him appear to be turning.  After he did that for about 30 seconds, then he turned, he shone his beam down,  came down to about 1 degree elevation and just slipped into the water.")

19.47 h.  Object appears at about 15 degrees elevation and appears to be red and flashing, travelling in easterly direction.   He came out of the dark area, just east of  St. Catharine's and looks a bit like a plane.  No sign of strobing lights.  Slightly increased in height.  Now this object appears to be flashing red and blue and is passing over the red flashing beacon.   The object stops, and then turns 180 degrees.  Maybe this is a plane after all, but that is a very abrupt turn for a plane.

19.54 h.  The object is at about 15 degrees elevation and is turning to more of a reddish-orange colour. Now appears to be decreasing in altitude and is heading east crossing the bright lighted area of  St. Catharine's.  The object appears to be pulsing.   Now down to about 10 degrees and still descending quite fast.   Now at about 6 degrees and looks like it will land fast.  It looks like it will "land" before it gets to the dark area.  Now turned to a deep orange !!  Seems to be "landing" in the typical spot in fact.  He is REALLY moving along.  Now at about 3 degrees and very deep orange.   The beam is down now on the water.   "WOW-Eeee!!!  That thing is MOVING!   It looked like it JUMPED!"
Object is still moving east and has really brightened up.  BRILLIANT amber!   Now approaching the dark area east of  St. Catharine's,  and this amber-coloured object is pulsing very rhythmically.

19.57 h.  A whitish object has suddenly appeared from nowhere!  He is waiting for the OTHER object !! He is stationary and appears to be "waiting" for the other object!  This new object is at about 5 degrees and the other, deep orange one has decreased to about 2 degrees and heading in an easterly direction.   The white one to the east of him is still stationary.  The orange one has shone down its beam, and as it submerges, the colour goes to almost red.

19.58 h.  SUBMERSION.

When the deep orange object approached the white object, the white object grew brighter,  but it still does not appear to be moving and is at about 3 degrees elevation.  It is a little east of where the deep orange object submerged.   This one is now decreasing in altitude.  "OH my goodness.  This is just like the object I filmed on September 4th.  There is the beam coming down!!! This gives me goosebumps!"  "Look how bright he is!   This is totally visible with the naked eye. This is BIG!"

19.59 h.   SUBMERSION..

"WOW...that was SO COOL... I love those submersions!"

(DM:  "It almost looked like the white object waited for the other one to submerge, brightened considerably,  and then submerged when the first one was already under.")

20.00 h.   Object has appeared at about 5 degrees above horizon, moving very quickly in an easterly direction, and flashing somewhat like a plane.  "Oooo....look how bright he is!"   However, there appears to be something flashing on one side so we must not discount that this could be a plane.   These objects are moving very fast and smooth.  They sort of flow rather than just move.  This object almost looks like a jewel.   The object is at about 6 degrees, and coming up over the white flashing marker.  The colour appears to be getting more orange.   It is hard to tell whether this colour is due to the effect of the atmosphere on the light source.

It was decided that, due to our fingers and feet going numb with the damp/cold, we would call it a night, even after such a short session.

We will be coming out again tomorrow or the next evening.

PACK UP TIME:  20.15 hrs.

ORBWATCH REPORT - UPDATE

Monday, 16th. March, 1998.

PRESENT: JJ and DM

SET UP: 18.45 hrs. E.S.T

WEATHER CONDITIONS: Clear evening, with very colourful sunset. Waves on water.

TEMPERATURE: Cool, at approximately 2 degrees C, but the strong southeast wind was making it seem much colder.

VISIBILITY: Excellent in all directions, even over the open water. Shoreline lights very clear in Burlington/Hamilton area. Unlimited ceiling; stars bright and clear.

That short, wide LIGHT PILLAR is here again. There is more of a "feeling" of possible activity tonight. When I reached our field site at 18.30 hrs. the PILLAR OF FIRE was very bright. (Please see video and stills of June 5th 1997. This is a similar event.)The amber lights along the shoreline are NOT present this evening, but there are some very bright NON-shoreline lights visible tonight

.19.17 h. ORB appeared at an approximate elevation of 15 degrees in the area of St. Catharines and is heading in a westerly direction at an unusually high speed. This event is clearly visible with the naked eye. Orb becomes less bright as it travels west, but remains a constant amber colour as when it first appeared. Object then increases in altitude to about 20 degrees elevation.D remarks: "The jury is still out on this one. Only if he makes another turn to the east will I say he is one of ours."The object is still moving west. and has turned very bright. Definitely not in the "plane" category. Now makes a sudden turn to the east, and there he goes. He is not that far from us. You can see him clearly with the naked eye. He is definitely orange now. He started off whitish and is now a much deeper orange colour. Now down to an elevation of about 6 degrees, and still heading in easterly direction. Oooooo...this one is REALLY moving.BIG RED, as we call a certain "beacon," is present this evening, and has been noticed on many occasions in conjunction with ORB activity. The object is now down to about 3 degrees elevation and moving really quickly. He just "landed."

19.30 h. ORBappears from west end of the lake at an elevation of about 15 degrees. This one is heading east and is dropping in altitude. It continues downwards, and travelling east until about 2 degrees elevation, when the BEAM appears underneath.

Submersion: 19.34 h.

19.39 h. Another object appears in same area as the first event. This is between the red flashing mast-like affair, and BIG RED. It is travelling east at around 10 degree elevation, and looks very much like a conventional aircraft as it is a whitish colour. Now down slightly to about 7 degrees elevation. Becoming much more orange in colour and brighter as well. Just approaching the red flashing mast. This one is moving quite fast. It is now down to 5 degrees elevation, and is apparently coming down at the same spot as the previous event. This object is much brighter and bigger though. The object is moving AND descending fast. It appears to be aiming for the exact same spot as the last event. The BEAM has appeared. He is now only about a degree above the horizon. The submersion spot appears to be SLIGHTLY west of BIG RED.BIG RED IS THE MARKER!

19.42 h. Submersion(Thought: if these were planes, then they would most likely land in same spot. These are "landing" in slightly different spots each time. By landing, we are referring to "submersion" which follows the appearance of the beam from under the object. The beam can often clearly be seen travelling along the surface of the water as the object zeroes in on its submersion location.)19.48 h. Object appears travelling east. This is more reddish in colour, and slightly pulsating. Very clear with the naked eye. Now increasing in altitude. He came out just in the light area of St. Catharines at about 5 degrees elevation. Now at about 10 degrees. Travelling slower than the previous events. This object is not "scintillating" or "flashing" but maintaining a "pulsing."

(Thought: JJ remarks that possibly this could be a small aircraft which would only display a red pulsing light.)

Object makes very abrupt turn and is now heading west. Gradually climbing, and heading towards the Niagara Escarpment. It was too bright to be a plane, but it DID come out of a different area from the other three.

Now at about 15 degrees and has passed the flashing red beacon where the others had landed. It has now leveled off The whole object appears to be pulsing between red and then orange. Has now decreased in altitude slightly, now probably at around 12 degrees. It is still pulsing, but not in a constant way. The time between each "pulsation" appears to change. It appears to "pulse" for a few times, then stops, and then resumes. It is not in rhythm. It is now much brighter, still heading west at around 10-12 degrees. This object is travelling much slower than the previous objects. It has now stopped pulsing, is orangey-white in colour, and still heading west. Staying at a constant colour which is NOT red any more. Slower pace than the previous three.Brightness has decreased. Since decreasing in brightness it is more red in colour. Pulsing has resumed. Altitude has increased slightly. Approaching the short, wide light pillar, and appears to be an orange-red colour now.

IT IS VERY COLD OUT HERE.

The object is pulsing regularly now. Still orange-red in colour. Continues heading towards the Escarpment. Increased to about 15 degrees, and really taking his time! Change in colour, and still heading west. Planes don't normally take this long to do this distance.

(JJ: I feel that this does NOT have the normal ORB-like characteristics, and is very linear in its movement. The red pulsing is possibly the type of light one would see on a CESSNA. However, even a small aircraft would hardly take this long to travel that distance.)

20.02 h. NO CONCLUSION ON THIS EVENT

20.05 h. Large, bright object has appeared over a brilliant golden, previously not seen, LIGHT PILLAR which disappears as quickly as it appeared! This was huge, right on water level, but has now completely disappeared. The large, bright object seemed to be coming towards us, then turned east, flipped right around, and is now going west. This one is difficult to assess.

20.09 h. Very bright object appears about centre of the lighted area of St. Catharines..at an elevation of about 3 degrees..... SOME PLANE!!!

This object seems to have three lights on the front, but not like one would see on an aircraft. There is no way that this is a plane. Whatever this is, it is big!

The lights are very wide apart, and very different in appearance from those of a plane. Now at an elevation of probably 5 degrees. This object appears not to be moving. Very bright, and an orange colour. Virtually on the horizon now, but is now increasing in altitude again. Now moving in easterly direction and the lights have not changed in brightness or colour. Even though the object changed direction, the lights did not change at all. THIS IS BIG!

Now over the short, wide light pillar. If this were a plane, and it was flying eastwards, we would only be able to see the flashing wing tip lights, and possibly the headlights, but they would be facing the direction in which it is going. This object is travelling east, but the lights have stayed the same, just as if a plane were flying towards us.The object is now approaching that "landing area" mentioned earlier. Moving quite fast now, at about 4 degrees elevation, still heading east, and appearing a bright orange.

("Look at this baby move - he is moving a lot quicker than when he was heading west!!""Planes don't do 180 degree turns.""No, and they don't stay that bright, and you would have seen the lights on either side by now!""Whilst doing this turn, the object shows NO CHANGE in luminosity, whereas a plane would alter in its appearance. This is a solid ball of light.")

20.12 h. Another object has appeared. We still need to watch the previous object though, which is still travelling in an easterly direction. The secondary object is above this one.The primary object is now heading towards BIG RED. He is about 3 degrees above the horizon, still heading in easterly direction.

20.13 h. THERE is the BEAM just before he gets to BIG RED!! He is still moving east with the beam clearly visible underneath.20.14 h. Submersion. The object that we mentioned before this last submersion has come out just east of St. Catharine's at an elevation of about 8 degrees. It first headed northwest, and is now heading in an easterly direction. This object is also the same orange colour and same level of luminosity, but is slightly higher. We expect him to decrease in altitude very shortly. This object is moving more slowly than the previous event, but is at the same level of luminosity. Not scintillating.

("There is a LOT of activity tonight. I had a 'feeling' about this all day!")

This object is still travelling along at about 8 degrees above horizon, still moving east and now even more orange than before. The object has now dropped in altitude slightly and is approaching the first red beacon. It is now at about 5 degrees elevation. It is still heading east, and maintaining same level of luminosity. Now down slightly lower. Speed has visibly increased and has decreased slightly in brightness. "Let's see what this little baby is doing!"

It has now just passed to the east of the first red, flashing beacon, and it looks like he is going to have to turn around because he is still about 3 degrees above horizon and he is approaching BIG RED, which seems to be the submersion spot tonight. As he has approached BIG RED he has got quite a bit brighter ......

("LOOK at that turn!! Look at how he banked!! That is a very sharp turn. He got to BIG RED and literally turned on the spot! There he goes again. He has now increased in altitude. HE IS BANKING AGAIN! Now he is heading east. WOW....look at this!!! This guy...."

"That BIG RED has to be a communications post of some sort or other!"

"He is still at about 3 degrees elevation and could be heading towards us.""This is CLEARLY visible with the naked eye... VERY bright.""He could be heading towards us, very orange in colour! Ooooooo....look at the size of him. Let's call him over!")

The object is now down to about 2 degrees above the horizon.

(" He is beautiful, and smack dab right between BIG RED and the other red beacon."

"LOOK at the beam! Beautiful beam!")Object is now almost on horizon and taking his time...very slow.

("Beautiful beam!")Object has moved slightly nearer to BIG RED now and heading east, seemingly looking for that submersion spot.

("I can clearly see the beam on the water as the object travels along.")

It seems to be looking for the submersion area, which, tonight, appears to be next to BIG RED.

("LOOK AT HIM......there he goes! Down, down......oh my goodness!")

The object appears to have submerged in front of BIG RED.

20.20 h. Submersion.

(Note: last year, whenever "BIG RED" was present, there were submersions.)

20.12 h. An object has emerged rom the Dark Area, but gives the appearance of a conventional aircraft. This object is about 8 degrees above the horizon and is the same orange colour as the previous events. Is now heading in a westerly direction and has climbed slightly in altitude.

"Oooooo.....who is this little guy above him?"Another object seems to be above the first object, at about 15 degrees elevation. This second object is almost the same colour too. This one is heading east.

("Tonight, these objects are first appearing as conventional aircraft."

"The guy at about 10 degrees is moving at a pretty good clip, but the one at 15 degrees is much slower."

"There is a plane coming in from the Hamilton direction, and looks NOTHING like these other objects. The plane is flashing, and has headlights, and looks quite ordinary."

"OK........the guy at 10 degrees is moving past the guy at 15 degrees. Once he passed him, the guy at 15 degrees TURNED AROUND and FOLLOWED him!")

The object at 15 degrees has now ascended to approximately 20 degrees elevation, and is heading in a westerly direction, the same as the object at 10 degrees. This one, in turn, has slightly descended to about 8 degrees. The higher of the two objects is now progressing much more slowly than before. The lower object is still heading in a westerly direction and the higher object seems to be almost stationary. The lower object is now down to about 5 degrees, still heading west, and moving pretty fast. It is now approaching BIG RED, and has become more white than orange. This object appears to be two lights.

"Two definite lights at a good distance apart from each other. He is now slowing down. He is now at 3 degrees above horizon. TWO LIGHTS....look at this guy go! He is now executing a sharp turn to head east and descending. The BEAM IS COMING DOWN now! He is now at one degree. He is west of the first red marker and at one degree. The beam is still coming down from underneath. He appears to be stationary at one degree.

Please note that this is the second event with TWO LIGHTS like this. He is on an angle. LOOK at this baby go on an angle. It is now THREE LIGHTS. HE IS TURNING VERTICALLY !!!!He is now submerging right near BIG RED."

20.24 h. Submersion.

(NOTE: This object appeared as TWO HORIZONTALLY ALIGNED LIGHTS, he then turned completely VERTICAL and towards the east, then again returned to a HORIZONTAL alignment, after completing the turn is when the three lights became visible."That was BIG. Those lights were SO clear!"

"When he banked and went vertical he was three lights.""That was ONE big event, and a bright orange colour!"

The other object from the previous section is now appearing as two lights also, orangey-white and showing no characteristics of an aircraft. NO plane lights are visible.

20.27 h. SUBMERSION! Where did he come from??There was no warning on this event. The object appeared just by BIG RED and immediately submerged.

(Both observers are now suffering severely from the cold.)

22.55 hrs. Packed up for the night.

ORBWATCH REPORT - UPDATE

Sunday, 15th March, 1998.

PRESENT: JJ and MH

SET UP: 20.30 hrs. E.S.T.

WEATHER CONDITIONS: Fairly calm, with moonlight on ripples of water.

TEMPERATURE: Feeling cold at approximately -5 degrees C.

VISIBILITY: Excellent in all directions. No haze.

The rather short, wide LIGHT PILLAR is here, but there is definitely a feeling of "no activity" as we arrive at the site.

The miniature suns are present in the area of Hamilton Harbour.I mentioned in my report of last Monday, 9th March, that there were many groups of flashing and sequencing lights out of the open water area of the lake. Tonight there are NO lights out there.

IF these had been conventional lights, I would surmise that they would appear every night. I also note here that there are NO AMBER LIGHTS along the shoreline from Hamilton towards St. Catharine's as there were on Monday last week. It is as if the "cities" and "towns" just appear and disappear at will.

This has nothing to do with visibility or weather conditions. Tonight and last Monday were almost identical. Sometimes there are myriads of lights along the shore, other times NOTHING!  We did, however, experience and incredible RED moonrise, which was quite breathtaking as it appeared over the lake horizon to the east.

The cold seemed very penetrating so we decided to call it a night, and planned on meeting up sometime fairly soon, as the anniversary of our VERY FIRST SIGHTING over the lake will be next Sunday, March 22nd.

21.30 h. Packed up for the night.

ORBWATCH REPORT - UPDATE

Thursday, March 12th, 1998.

PRESENT: JJ and DM

SET UP: 19.15 hrs. E.S.T.

WEATHER CONDITIONS: Very calm. Small ripples on water.

TEMPERATURE: Cold at about MINUS 10 degrees C.

VISIBILITY: Excellent along shoreline west and east, and also over open water in direction of St. Catharine's and Niagara. Full Moon very clear, and reflecting on water.

A rather short, wide LIGHT PILLAR is here tonight. This makes us think that there could possibly be submersions tonight.

19.30 h. An ORB appears at approximately 10 degrees elevation, and heads in easterly direction for about three minutes. Lowers in altitude to approximately 4 degrees elevation and does a complete circle. The ORB becomes a red colour as it does the circle, although it had been a light whitish golden colour on its first appearance.

The ORB appears to be "flashing" but this would seem to be more like "pulsation," in actual fact. It then appears to change colour and become more whitish, and continues heading east at an elevation of approximately 4 degrees.

19.35 h. ORB turns again and heads west, giving the impression of "phasing in and out" because it gets brighter and fainter in a definite rhythm. The ORB then appears be either stationary, OR could be coming directly towards us. The BEAM suddenly appears below the ORB. This is the highest we have ever seen an ORB when the beam appears. This is very unusual. The ORB then moves in a westerly direction, with the beam visible below. The ORB then turns red again and the BEAM is also red. The ORB is at about a degree above horizon and turns DEEP RED.

19.37 h. Submersion.

20.03 h. Whitish light source appears at approximately 15 degrees elevation travelling in an easterly direction. Appears to be approaching the "Light Pillar" but quite high above it. This light source is travelling faster than the previous event. This could possibly be an aircraft. Colour is very white.NOTE: There are NO rows of lights on the horizon in open water as there were on Monday night. ( Please see March 9th report. )The light source has now dropped to about 10 degrees elevation, and has gone more into the Dark Area to the east of St. Catharine's. It is still travelling east, but has dropped to about 7 degrees and is gradually descending further. The light source looks more "whole" than at first, when it appeared to be more of a flashing light. The light source is still travelling east at about 4 degrees elevation. The light source appears to be slowing down, but is still travelling east. Light source goes into the Dark Area and simply "disappears" at about 20.08 h.

20.10 h. Object appears at about 8 degrees elevation heading in easterly direction. This object is very faint and hard to see. (Must be cloud cover over there.) Object reappears and seems to be a whitish colour. This is a more solid-looking object. Lowers to about 5 degrees elevation travelling east. Steadily descending, and level of luminosity remains constant. Now down to about 3 degrees elevation, with no sign of flashing or scintillation. This object is travelling much more slowly than the previous one. This object has NO characteristics of an aircraft.

20.13 h. BEAM comes down from underneath of the object. This appears identical with the event that I videotaped on September 4th. The submersion is very clear with naked eye!

"LOOK AT HIM!!!"There appear to be THREE lights, and there is definite rotation, even as the object submerges."NO LIGHT PILLAR" I say, and at that very moment, the object re-emerges from the water and becomes the LIGHT PILLAR.   We then discuss the fact that an ORB has appeared and submerged, and re-emerged, to become the LIGHT PILLAR, and at that very moment, becomes VERY bright, and re-submerges.

20.15 h. Submersion.

This submersion was just into the Dark Area.

20.17 h. ORB appears at approximately 15 degrees elevation, which, yet again, is unusually high. It appears just to the west of the "wide light pillar." The object appears to not be moving, OR could be coming towards us, giving the impression of no movement. This object also seems to be a reddish colour. It is now travelling east and moving really slowly. It appears to be changing from white to red. Moving very slowly, and very faint.

We are both feeling extremely cold right now, but will remain a while longer as the ORBS are appearing more frequently.

This ORB is really taking its time, and just meandering around. Hardly moving. ORB appears to be travelling towards us, and then resumes an easterly trajectory, and is barely visible. Another ORB appears just below the other one, and heading west.We are going to have to come out here more often when it is WARMER!

20.22 h. This ORB is about 10 degrees above the horizon and appears to be identical with the event that I videotaped on September 4th. Still just meandering about. Considerable increase in luminosity, and has become more of an amber colour. Correction: "amber-ishy."

The ORB appears to consist of, what appears to me, to be three rotating lights. Still moving in easterly direction. ( On tape: "Now over the pink burbling, wobbly thing.)It is very bright, has three lights and is rotating. YES! This is an ORB!

( Conversation on the side: "Where the hell do you see the THREE LIGHTS? You must have good eyesight."

"I have good long distance sight! It's THREE rotating lights!"

"I believe you, I just can't SEE!!!"

"Are you SERIOUS?"

"I can't! DER!!!! Do you think my sight is 20/20?? With glasses ON?? Look at him!!! He is moving Smooooooooooooth! SMOooooooooooooooooooooth!"

"WHAT are you talking about?"

"The guy above the clouds. He is moving SMOooooooooooooooooooooooooth!"

"THAT'S a PLANE!!!"

"He's moving SMOOooooooooooooooooooooth!"

"OKAY....let's have a look!"

"He's moving SMMmmmmmooooooooooooooooooooooth!"

"NOW, we've lost the S*%t because we are talking!!! OK..he's above the red wibbly thing. He's meandering back, and back over the wibbly thing, and a PLANE would NOT be doing that. However, I DO have frost bite now!"

"I just can't feel my toes, that's all.")

This conversation has been documented to show the very scientific approach used in this field work.

ORB appeared suddenly at about 3 degrees elevation, and the BEAM immediately came down below. No timing on this right now, as, in the dark, I have pressed the STOP WATCH mode on my watch !!!!

20.27 h. This ORB is whitish instead of amber like the previous event. Appears to be stationary or is coming towards us at about 3 degrees elevation. This one is almost staying still, and has not decreased in altitude.

"I wonder what he is waiting for!?"

"He is waiting for us to be quiet!"

This ORB is a whitish-yellow in colour. Gradually becomes more amber, and THERE comes the beam. Now the ORB lowers towards the water with the beam below.

"I think that he was waiting for the A-OK."

Now rotating and coming very close to water's surface, and is an amber to yellow colour.Totally clear to the naked eye. Big and bright! "There he goes, just like a Light Pillar!"

20.30 h. Submersion.

"There's one just going in !!! S*%T!!! I didn't see that little guy!"

"Where!?"

"He's just going in now."

"Where?"

"LOOK LOOK LOOK !!!!!!!!!! Naked eye!!!! Look at the colour of HIM!"

"Look at how bright he is!""WHERE did he come from?"

20.31 h. He's at about 2 degrees elevation, and is actually moving west. He suddenly just appeared at very low elevation as if from nowhere. He did this just because we had decided to pack up due to being freezing cold!

This ORB appears to be looking for a submersion point, but a different one from the earlier events. He appears to have become slightly higher, but the beam is still clear underneath, moving over the surface of the water. "He's looking for something.

"Now at about 1 degree elevation, and he is NOW submerging. Can only be seen very faintly.

20.32 h. Submersion.

"What about the full moon? We still don't really know if the FULL MOON is relevant to the 'activity' or not." Now my feet are actually rigid. (laughter!) I cannot feel my feet!"

(NOTE: to Californians and Australians! YOU would never do this! YOU don't know what cold is!)

20.40 h. ORB appears at about 15 degrees elevation, heading east, but moving faster than the previous event. Now down to about 8 degrees elevation, and is yellowish-white in colour. Now down to about 6 degrees elevation, and moving quite quickly. Now at about 5 degrees and staying a constant colour. Still descending and heading in easterly direction. Now much brighter and has slowed down. Now at about 3 degrees and a little fainter. THERE'S THE BEAM! He is going down quickly. Now at 1 degree and still moving east. Down he goes, close to the surface, and GONE.

20.42h. Submersion

20.55h. Packed up for the night

JJ.
